As a partner of the technician project, WEGMANN automotive supports the formation at the Franz Oberthür School. The company supports a project team in the field of mechanical engineering that develops and ultimately manufactures a solution to the problem defined by the company over a period of six months.
WEGMANN automotive commissioned the project team the task of developing and designing a decoiler for 16 loosely wound wire reels. Previously, WEGMANN automotive´s workers had to lift the wire reel from a pallet to an existing welding frame during the set-up process. This required enormous strength, as the wire is wound on a spoke that weighs 25 kg. In addition, this wire coil is an expensive custom-made product that can only be purchased from a special supplier. The new set-up process should therefore be shorter and more ergonomic, while the wire coils should be cheaper and available at all times.
Since September, the students have been in the company once a week and have been working together with their supervisors from WEGMANN automotive to solve this problem. During the first step, the project team worked out various concepts and proposed their solutions to the company. After WEGMANN had decided on the concept of a prototype for wire processing, the students started to prepare the necessary designs and construction drawings. These were then manufactured by the company and assembled and commissioned in cooperation with the project team.
Those who would like to know what the result of this cooperation will be, should not miss the open day at the Franz-Oberthür-Schule.On Saturday, 16.03.2019, the results of the various project groups will be exhibited and presented here. The project is a great opportunity for the students to get to know operational procedures and gain practical experience. For WEGMANN these projects are also an enrichment - supporting young people and bringing fresh ideas into the daily routine is especially important to WEGMANN automotive.
